UCL (University College London) is a Research University with a long track record of research in AI and Machine Learning. There is an AI Centre within the UCL Computer Science Department.

Founded in 1826 in the heart of London, UCL is London's leading multidisciplinary university, with more than 13,000 staff and 42,000 students from 150 different countries. UCL was rated the top university in the UK for research strength in the most recent Research Excellence Framework in 2014. UCL is ranked 8th in the 2022 QS World University Rankings. UCL was the first university in England to welcome students of any religion, and to welcome women to university education.

UCL Computer Science (UCL-CS) was ranked top in the UK in the Research Excellence Framework evaluation in 2014. There has been active research in machine learning and artificial intelligence at UCL-CS since the 1980s with recent involvement in a significant number of AI spin-outs and companies in London including Google DeepMind. UCL-CS has a range of MSc programmes in the area of machine learning and artificial intelligence with around 250 students graduating from these programmes each year. It also hosts a Centre for Doctoral Training in Foundational Artificial Intelligence.
