RODIN / RI4EU

RObotics Digital Innovation Network

The EU-funded RODIN project is coordinating activities among Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs) in the four prioritised application areas of healthcare, infrastructure inspection and maintenance, agri-food and agile production. The network of networks created and orchestrated by the project will facilitate and accelerate a broad uptake and integration of robotic technologies and support the digitisation of industry through robotics.

RI4EU is a re-branding of the RODIN project, representing 5 Innovation Actions (IAs): DIH-HERO, TRINITY, DIH², RIMA, agROBOfood.
It is a gateway to European Robotics Digital Innovation Hubs and its mission is to open and expand the reach of a sustainable European gateway that supplies easy access to EU funded innovations in robotics by promoting IA’s events and initiatives.

With increasing digitalisation, expansion of the Internet of Things and maturation of Industry 4.0 leadership in robotics will be critical to Europe’s future. The European Commission has made the provision of a network of robotics digital innovation hubs (DIHs) a priority.

In the robotics domain, these DIHs aim at connecting the robotics technology development to actual implementation in the industry by supporting them with technological as well as business services. They also play a key role in the creation/enhancement of the regional innovation ecosystems.

RODIN aims to accelerate innovation in robotics technologies in four priority application areas that are considered important for existing and emerging market segments with a potential of further robotization: agile production, infrastructure inspection, and maintenance, healthcare, and agri-food.

Where five Innovation Actions (IAs) were selected to strengthen the collaboration between the DIHs in the four Priority Application Areas (PAA) above, a more general coordination between them was needed to align their activities and create synergies. This is key to creating an efficient and effective common European platform for robotics.

Therefore, the overall aim of RODIN is to coordinate activities within 5 Innovation Actions (DIH-HERO, TRINITY, DIH², RIMA, agROBOfood) and support them be increasing efficiency and effectiveness of their activities, as well as improving their cross-PAA collaboration.

For this, RODIN is implementing the following set of activities: 1) collecting and assessing information from the individual DIH networks and developing standardized description of the services provided and supports the development of DIHs and their interaction; 2) coordinating and synchronizing the activities related to Financial Support to Third Parties (FSTP), providing information and guidance and a platform to share experiences to develop consistent experience for stakeholders applying for FSTP grants, and monitoring the performance and outcome of the FSTP; 3)establishing and operating  Working Groups to connect the IAs in the four PAAs and to develop long-term strategies towards sustainable ecosystems including business plans for DIHs and DIH networks; 4) identifying communication channels to external stakeholders and developing and implementing a communication strategy and 5) Providing a web portal for all types of information and communication needs and handling the digital infrastructure for DIH networks in Robotics.
