For the end user, KNOWAGE provides a lot of functionalities such as: static reporting, OLAP engine for multidimensional analysis, what-if models, interactive dashboards, ad-hoc reporting, KPI definition and monitoring, visual data exploration, spatial/geographic views, flat data entry, Office integration, collaborative tools, automatic dossier, personal workspace, upload file for new personal data and self-service capabilities, data preparation and more.

For the administrator, KNOWAGE provides every capabilities to support the daily management of the suite in a production environment: traditional and big data sources, data sets, users and roles management, multitenant, catalogues, metamodels, data profiling, security, cache management, scheduler, repository management, audit & monitoring and more, custom code embedding and maintenance.

KNOWAGE can meet complex requirements as well as the simplest ones, and the customer can decide how to compose his first KNOWAGE instance, modifying the setup in the future if necessary.

With KNOWAGE you can start from two different self-standing modules:

– ENTERPRISE REPORTING, for the production and distribution of pixel-perfect reports, also on a scheduled basis

– SMART INTELLIGENCE, for interactive analysis, starting from data exploration up to the self-service capabilities on multiple data sources for advanced dashboards with mash-up logic.

These starter modules can be used alone or in a combined way, sharing all common features such as security and profiling management, catalogues, audit and monitoring components and all functionality for overall lifecycle management of your analytics solution.

Furthermore, the Smart Intelligence module can be enriched by four different plugin that provide additional features such as the usage of Solr indexes with faceted views and full-text search, plot data on a map or produce a spatial view, set KPIs and alarms or embed R/Python code into your analytics solution.

The Custom Analytics (CA) plug-in, in particular, enables the use of R and Python languages at different stages in the analytical pipeline:

▪ in data access, to easily read data formats typically used by data scientists to store analytical models and/or carry out initial analytical processing close to the data source itself;

▪ to embed in-line analytical functions on dashboards;

▪ to feed a catalog of functions that can be reused at different points in the pipeline.

Through R/Python it is also always possible to invoke models according to the PMML standard.

In addition to these features, a module dedicated to What-if analysis on a multidimensional basis is available.

The Function Catalog allows centralized management of R/Python functions that data scientists with appropriate skills can codify using ML/DL models previously uploaded to the platform, but which all users can then use without needing particular skills. The Function Catalog is organized into four main categories:

▪ Text Analysis: functions used to analyze unstructured text;

▪ Machine Learning: functions trained on sample training set;

▪ Computer Vision: functions used for image and video processing;

▪ Utilities: general utility functions.

The functions registered in the catalog will be usable directly in dashboards for in-line analytics on individual widgets.

Thanks to the open source model and adoption of open standards, KNOWAGE can be used as-is or easily included in a third-part application giving it new value with embedded analytics.

The suite is available on two versions. The Community Edition, with the whole set of analytical capabilities, entirely free under an open source licence, is part of the software stack managed by OW2 as SpagoBI always did. The Enterprise Edition, with a commercial offering and some facilities for the administrator, is provided and guaranteed directly from Engineering Group, the leading Italian software and services company.
