Founded in 1472 and named after its founders Duke Ludwig IX and King Maximilian I, the LMU Munich is today one of the most renowned universities in Europe. With its broad range of faculties with 700 professors and 3600 persons on the scientific staff, LMU is well-known for its excellent research across broad areas of the academic spectrum. 

Across LMU's 18 faculties, top researchers work on AI-related topics in many departments and disciplines, promoting a comprehensive and holistic view of the subject. This ranges from the technical foundations to the use of AI technologies in a wide range of application areas to exploring and addressing the societal and ethical challenges associated with AI technologies. Currently, 50 internationally recognized LMU researchers are already working on or with AI methods and their application in many fields. In the coming years, LMU will further expand this number while strengthening its vital role in AI systems and applications.
