fortiss’ research focuses on state of the art methods, techniques and tools of software development in the Artificial Intelligence, thereby bridging the notorious gap between fundamental research in academia and its fruitful implementation in an industrially and commercially feasible context. As part of the mission of fortiss, the research results in the development of AI, with a special focus on "robust", “trustworthiness” and “human-centered”, are transferred into practice in the challenging domains such as aerospace, industrial automation, automotive and public administration. fortiss expands its sphere of activities with a network of research excellence and innovative companies to create synergies at a national and international level.

fortiss is funded through the Free State of Bavaria, which in this case is represented by the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy (StMWI) and the Bavarian State Ministry of Finance and Homeland Affairs (StMFH).
