The University of Trento (UNITN) is a medium-sized University in Italy constantly ranked among the best Italian Universities and well positioned in international rankings: as 1st in the national ranking of Censis (medium-sized institutions), in the 301-350 group of the World University Ranking 2021 by the Times Higher Education, 440th (34% of the top universities worldwide) in QS World University Rankings 2022. UNITN is part of the ECIU University project and it is a founding member of the International AI Doctoral Academy and is an active member of the EIT ICTLabs, one of the Knowledge and Innovation Communities set up by the EIT.

UNITN has extensive experience with the management of the projects funded under FP7 (119 projects being the coordinator of 42). As for H2020, 136 projects have been approved for a total budget of €56.520.840: for the Pillar Excellent Science 15 ERC grants for a total amount of € 17.732.000, 50 MSCA Action for a total budget of € 11.271.746, 14 FET-OPEN, Proactive and Flagship for a total budget of € 6.480.986, 53 other projects (10 IA, 9 CSA and 34 RIA - in Industrial Leadership and Societal challenges), 4 as linked third party or third party (cascade funding) and is the coordinator in 64 of them.
