Cheers to our phenomenal WAIROE, Cezara Panait

Currently, she is the Head of Digital Policy at the think tank Europuls – Centre of European Expertise, where she leads the digital policy activity, publishing press articles and regularly organizing and moderating public debates that bring together national and European policy-makers, as well as the private sector and civil society representatives.

According to the Women in Digital Scoreboard (WID), a monitor of women’s participation in the digital economy and society, women are still less likely to have specialist digital skills and work in the field as only 18% of ICT specialists in the EU are women. In her function as the head of Digital Policy, Cezara Panait aims at creating equal opportunities for all and women being part of this change is extremely important to her.

On being asked about the importance of having more women working in AI digital platforms or online platforms in general, Cezara Panait stated, “Currently, women are underrepresented in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Data Science or the Digital Sector at large. Only 22% of AI professionals globally are female, compared to 78% who are male. Gender gaps are real, and we need education and research improvement, developing skills for female representatives and creating new opportunities and equal chances for women in this field.”

Previously, Cezara Panait won awards for developing policy proposals on Artificial Intelligence and ethics, regulating online content and data protection, in international competitions organized by Microsoft Brussels, the Internet Generation Forum at the ITU Telecom World, or academic forums. She was interviewed as an AI expert in a project supported by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), she published academic interviews with experts from the Council of Europe Ad Hoc Committee on Artificial Intelligence (CAHAI) and she won research grants from the Central European University to analyze the opportunity of establishing a regulatory framework for AI.

Through her activities, Cezara Panait wants to contribute to strengthening an open and transparent debate framework for all actors involved in the decision-making process. She is passionate about bringing a positive change to the digital policy framework and working hard to make it happen with her Human rights law background.
