What is the AI Alliance

The AI Alliance is a multi-stakeholder forum launched in June 2018 within the framework of the European Strategy on Artificial Intelligence.

The forum's initial scope was the provision of feedback to the High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence (AI HLEG), which was appointed by the European Commission to assist with policy development. Over time, the AI Alliance has become a point of reference in stakeholder-driven discussions on AI policy.

Given the scale of the challenge associated with AI, the full mobilisation of a diverse set of participants, including businesses, consumer organisations, trade unions, and other representatives of civil society bodies is essential. With over 4,000 members the AI Alliance brings together these participants. They contribute to a daily exchange of views on AI and share documents and AI-related events.

How to register for the AI Alliance

The European AI Alliance is hosted on the European Commission's Futurium platform. In order to become a member of the European AI Alliance, you need to create an EU login account. Once you already have an EU Login, you can fill in the form to become a member of the European AI Alliance. Please note that this process can take some time. Once your registration is validated, you will receive an email notification. You will then be able to access the European AI Alliance and begin contributing.

In case you encounter difficulties when registering, please contact the Futurium team.

How the AI Alliance platform works

The platform encourages broad participation in the policy-making process of the European Commission. Members of the Alliance can engage in discussions with each other and the experts of the AI HLEG in a dedicated forum. Feedback is also sought on specific questions and on draft documents prepared by the AI HLEG under a dedicated section. A specific events section keeps members informed of the upcoming relevant meetings and events which the Commission is organising, or in which it is taking part, and members can register their own events on the platform. And, Members can access official documents on AI, and contribute reports and papers to an open library.

The European AI Alliance Assembly

The members of the European AI Alliance meet with experts, stakeholders and international actors in the field of AI in an annual assembly. The first edition of the European AI Alliance Assembly took place in June 2019. The event offered the opportunity to discuss the latest achievements and future perspectives on the European Commission’s policy on Artificial Intelligence and provided a platform for the AI HLEG.

The second edition of the European AI Alliance Assembly took place October 2020. The Assembly were presented with the main findings of the Public Consultation on the Commission’s White Paper on Artificial Intelligence and its future perspectives in building a European approach for excellence and trust.
