Co-organised with the support of the AI-on-Demand (AIoD) platform, the session emphasised fostering collaboration and equipping SMEs with the tools needed to harness the transformative power of AI. The event took place at the European Economic and Social Committee in Brussels, showcasing Europe’s commitment to advancing digital innovation among its small and medium-sized enterprises.

A packed agenda
The session began with a keynote address by Cecile Huet, Head of Unit Robotics & Artificial Intelligence Innovation and Excellence at the European Commission, highlighting the critical role AI plays in Europe’s digital transformation. Following the keynote, a dynamic panel discussion focused on connecting ideas, solutions, and opportunities for the European AI innovation community.

Panelists included:

  • Carolyn Kelleher, AI-on-Demand Community Manager, who shared insights into the platform's resources and future opportunities for SMEs.
  • Emilia Tantar, Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Officer at Black Swan LUX S.A., who discussed AI compliance challenges and the emerging trends shaping the sector.
  • Eugenio Bertino, Co-founder of Hausme, who emphasised the importance of integrating AI into business strategies for efficiency and innovation.
  • Erman Atak, COO of Hybrid Core, who explored how hybrid intelligence systems can foster resilience and long-term growth for businesses.

The session highlighted the barriers SMEs face in adopting AI, including a lack of skills, funding, and awareness, while also showcasing the opportunities AI offers to optimise operations and drive innovation. The AI-on-Demand platform was presented as a key enabler, providing access to cutting-edge tools, resources, and a network of experts to help SMEs thrive in a competitive global market.

The one-on-one matchmaking was the highlight of the session, offering an invaluable opportunity for participants to forge direct connections with potential collaborators. Structured into three dynamic 15-minute slots, the matchmaking allowed attendees to engage in focused, high-impact conversations tailored to their specific needs and goals. Each participant was paired with other professionals from diverse sectors, including AI technology providers, research organisations, and SMEs looking to integrate AI into their operations. The session aimed to bridge gaps between AI innovators and small businesses, facilitating discussions around collaborative projects, knowledge exchange, and the practical applications of AI in various industries. The matchmaking session proved to be a key catalyst for creating synergies and ensuring that the momentum generated at the summit would continue well beyond the event.
