Today, we hear from Antti Oulasvirta, Professor at Aalto University’s Department of Information and Communications Engineering and a member of the Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence (FCAI), on the impact of the AI-Builder in the Collaborative AI Arena. This pioneering platform, part of the Humane-AI Net EU project, benchmarks generative AI capabilities in co-creative tasks. Developed in partnership with the Fraunhofer Institute under the guidance of Mr. Martin Welss, the Collaborative AI Arena combines innovative design with user-centric tools to make cutting-edge AI accessible to a wider audience.

Revolutionising collaborative AI

The Collaborative AI Arena enables users to engage with generative AI models for a variety of co-creative tasks, all while collecting feedback that is aggregated into a public leaderboard. This unique benchmarking approach not only evaluates AI performance but also highlights user experiences, bridging the gap between developers and end-users.

"Our initial vision seemed daunting, but the AI-Builder tool on the AI-on-Demand (AIoD) Platform turned it into an achievable reality," said Antti Oulasvirta, Professor at Aalto University. The platform's intuitive design allowed the team to integrate plug-and-play capabilities for AI models, tasks, metrics, and leaderboards seamlessly.

The role of AI-Builder

Central to the success of the Collaborative AI Arena is the AI-Builder, an innovative tool within the AIoD Platform. The AI-Builder simplifies the process of composing pipelines, onboarding containers, and deploying AI solutions, making it indispensable for professionals with diverse technical expertise levels.

During the development phase, the project team swiftly created proof-of-concept prototypes, leveraging the AI-Builder’s efficient design studio and auto-repositioning feature. While the latter required some acclimation, its benefits in enhancing user-friendliness became evident.

Among the standout features of the AI-Builder are its comprehensive deployment interfaces and playground dashboards. These tools provide clear overviews of deployed pipelines, convenient log management, and seamless access to published pipelines, facilitating effortless collaboration and result sharing among developers.

Perhaps the most notable impact of the AI-Builder lies in its ability to democratise AI development. By lowering technical barriers and streamlining complex processes, the platform empowers professionals with varying expertise to engage in advanced AI-based projects.
