CITCEA-UPC is a technological center part of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya that includes all the necessary capacities for the development of products and projects in the field of energy: Concepts and models, simulation, development of services and solutions and implementation of prototypes both on the side software as hardware:

o Big data and smart grids: Operation and prediction of energy and electrical systems; maintenance and planning. Monitoring and predictive maintenance, quality and security of electricity supply, energy efficiency, economy, market and regulations.

o Solar energy: Design and analysis of solar plants, Operation and control of solar plants, network support for solar plants.

o Wind Energy: Turbines, integration of wind power into the grid, offshore generation plants, offshore transmission systems, including HVDC.

o Energy systems dominated with power electronics: HVDC, FACTS and systems based on renewables.

o Microgrids: Connected and disconnected from the network, operation, control, protection and synchronization.

o Electric Vehicle: Analysis of the EV impact on the network, design, implementation and control of chargers, bidirectional V2G chargers, etc...

o Energy storage: Battery models, test control and characterization, management of hybrid battery and supercapacitor systems.

o Power electronics: Lithium ion, NiMH and VRL battery chargers, BMS battery management systems, resonant and multi-level converters, SIC Semiconductors, control of converters with DSP and connectivity of converters to the network.

o Automation and industrial communications: CANopen, PLC, Ethercat, IEC 61850, motion control, hardware and software development for high-speed and real-time applications.

o Digital Control: Digital signal processing and adaptive filters, high-resolution analog-digital conversion, non-linear and adaptive controllers, multi-variable control and state estimation.

o Electrical machines: Design of motors and generators, simulation and analysis of finite elements, vector control (FOC), Direct Torque Control DTC, autotuning and sensorless control
