The University of Leeds is one of the top ten universities in the UK and is internationally acknowledged as a centre of excellence in a wide range of academic and professional disciplines. It is ranked within the top 100 in the QS world rankings. Leeds is also one of the largest universities in the UK. The 2014 UK Research Excellence Framework (REF) identified 82.76% of the School of Computing's research activity as “world leading” or “internationally excellent”. Leeds houses the Leeds Institute for Data Analytics (LIDA) with 200 researchers and particular strengths in consumer data, geographical data and medical big data analytics, and is home to a Centre of Doctoral Training in AI and Medicine. applied ethics in the UK (the IDEA-CETL).

Description of our AI activities
Leeds strengths in AI include Computer Vision, NLP, KR, Machine Learning, Decision Support Systems, user-adapted interactive systems, and robotics, with particular strengths in manipulation, collaborative robotics, infrastructure robotics, cognitive robotics, autonomous transport and medical robotics. Leeds hosts a newly created Centre of Doctoral Training in AI and Medicine. Leeds also has one of the very few centres for applied ethics in the UK (the IDEA-CETL), which has a focus on AI ethics.
