The University of Copenhagen was founded in 1479 and today has 37,500 students and 9,000 employees. With its 5,000 researchers, the University boasts an international research environment and is highly ranked on the leading ranking lists of the world's best universities. The diversity of academic environments and scientific approaches is the University of Copenhagen's distinguishing feature and strength. Based on independent research and research-based education at the highest level, it provides a framework for critical thinking, insights, and a quest for truth for the benefit of society.

Through independent and curiosity-driven research, our researchers and students expand horizons with new knowledge and contribute to influencing societal trends. The University of Copenhagen is not only Denmark's oldest university, but also one of the first universities in Northern Europe. At the core of the University is its excellent research. Conducting research at the highest international level is essential to attract, develop and retain talent. And it is a prerequisite for ensuring a sound and stable financial framework that allows the University to fulfil its national obligation to deliver education of the highest quality. One of the University's most important tasks is to bring knowledge and new insight to bear to the advantage of society and of the world, whose complex issues constantly inspire and challenge us. The University has a responsibility to ensure the development of free and independent research and a responsibility towards society's need for solutions and development.

The SCIENCE AI Centre of the University of Copenhagen has been established to strengthen the research within artificial intelligence across various entities and manifest University of Copenhagen as a key player within AI. By facilitating cross-disciplinary collaborations across the faculty and with industrial and governmental partners, we aim at pushing the boundaries of AI research, educating the next-generation AI experts, and developing and applying AI technologies to increase economic growth and address societal challenges ranging from healthcare to city planning.

Furthermore, the University of Copenhagen is part of the Pioneer Centre for AI (aicentre.dk), Denmark's largest research centre for artificial intelligence. The centre focuses on societal challenges, people and design, and will play a leading role in developing human-centric AI. It focuses on fundamental research and within an interdisciplinary framework, develops platforms, methods, and practices addressing society's greatest challenges.
